Monica Wang, VMD

Dr. Wang's experience caring for animals started with her first pet, a tiny yellow chick, which her grandmother bought for her as a Chinese New Year's gift. She named him "Little Yellow." It was such a bonding experience between grandmother and granddaughter that her menagerie soon included a rabbit, a kitten and a hedgehog. She also spent a great many childhood years trying to barter for her uncle's little dog, Snooty.  True to form, Snooty always snubbed her but she secretly loved him most of all.

In college, Dr. Wang studied Psychology as she originally planned on being a counselor but the pull of animal care remained strong and she spent many weekends with rescue groups trying to get older dogs adopted. She discovered that talking with people about their animals rekindled her memories of childhood and family and in her heart of hearts she wanted to help animals.

Dr. Wang graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. Her medical interests include pain management, dermatology, internal medicine and integrative/holistic care. She is licensed by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association for animal chiropractic and is pursuing certification in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine this year. Her goal is to be able to offer a blend of Eastern and Western medicines to suit each pet's individual needs.

In her free time, Dr. Wang likes to cook, read and travel. She most recently visited Peru and her next trip will be the U.K. She lives in Winsted with her husband Justin and their two dogs Petie and Widget.
